Seeds of Resistance Zine

2025
by Assata’s House
ALYH ABOVE, Writer + Editor

Seeds of Resistance: Planting Abolitionist Thought, Growing Collective Freedom

Celebrate the spirit of collective freedom with Seeds of Resistance, the debut zine from Assata’s House—a powerful offering of abolitionist thought, ancestral wisdom, and radical imagination. Released alongside a special screening of the Assata Shakur documentary, this zine honors Assata’s enduring legacy while rooting us in the present-day movement for liberation.

Each contribution is a seed, planting visions of justice, survival, and possibility:

“Something to Hang On To” by Alexandria "Al" Smith
Grounded and accessible, this piece offers practical tools for everyday resistance, inspired by Assata’s guiding principles.

Abolition Meets Environmental Justice by Kiian Dawn
A bold reflection on how Assata’s revolutionary legacy intersects with ecological healing and climate justice.

“A Black World-builder’s Mini-Guide” by ALYH ABOVE
A visionary blueprint for navigating and resisting oppressive systems—ideal for educators, organizers, and dreamers alike.

“Surviving Solitary” by Malika Henderson
A deeply personal testimony from a survivor-turned-advocate, moving from incarceration to collective healing and abolitionist advocacy.

Together, these writings offer more than reflection—they serve as a call to action. Whether you're a longtime abolitionist or just beginning your journey, Seeds of Resistance invites you to step into your role as a world-builder and freedom dreamer.
